Juno is a spacecraft launched by NASA on 5 August 2011 from Earth to study Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system.
Juno took about 5 years to reach Jupiter from Earth and after traveling 1,740 million miles, it was successful in reaching Jupiter on 4 July 2016.
On July 5, 2022, the Juno spacecraft completed its 43rd close flyby of Jupiter and observed the complex colors and composition of Jupiter's clouds.
NASA has recently released pictures of Jupiter taken by Juno. These photos reveal some of the most interesting aspects of Jupiter's atmosphere, including color variations.
These images, created by citizen scientist Bjorn Jonsson using raw data from Juno, offer a clear view of Jupiter's spectacular swirls and clouds of dust.
NASA revealed that these images of Jupiter were taken when Juno was about 5,300 km above Jupiter's clouds and was traveling at 2,09,000 km per hour relative to the planet.
On several occasions, NASA has released images of 50-kilometer-long storms at the planet's north pole and the shadow cast of its moon Ganymede on Jupiter.
In its extended mission, Juno will continue to probe Jupiter until September 2025, or until the end of the spacecraft's life.
