NASA, SpaceX Crew-5 Mission

NASA and SpaceX aim to launch an American, Japanese and Russian astronaut crew to the International Space Station on Wednesday, October 5.

If the current schedule takes place, the Crew-5 mission will launch on SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket and Crew Dragon spacecraft at noon EDT from NASA's Kennedy Space Center Launchpad 39A in Florida.

Following the launch, the Dragon spacecraft, named Endurance, will dock at the International Space Station at 4.57 pm EDT on Thursday, October 6 (Friday, October 7 at 2.27 AM IST).

The crew members of the mission include- NASA Astronauts Josh Cassada and Nicole Mann, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) astronaut Koichi Wakata, Roscosmos cosmonaut Anna Kikina.

Anna Kikina will be the first astronaut to fly with SpaceX. Nicole Mann will become the first Native American woman to reach space.

This is the fifth crew rotation mission to the orbiting laboratory using the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft on a Falcon 9 rocket with astronauts as part of the agency's Commercial Crew Program.

NASA and SpaceX were aiming for Crew-5 to launch on October 3, but Hurricane Ian forced a two-day delay. Ian slammed into Florida's southwest coast on 28 September as a Category 4 hurricane.
