Yoga, a priceless gift of ancient Indian tradition, has become one of the most trusted ways to boost physical and mental well-being.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA,  21JUNE 2022

Yoga is a growing trend over the years that has become a trendsetter in maintaining both physical and mental well-being.

The word "Yoga" is derived from the Sanskrit root 'Yuj,' which means "to join," "to unite," or "to yoke".

Yoga is symbolizing the unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between humans and nature; and a holistic approach to health and well-being.

The United Nations General Assembly declared June 21 as International Yoga Day on 11 December 2014, thanks to Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's relentless efforts.

The first International Yoga Day was celebrated on  June 21, 2015 and since then this day has been celebrated annually on June 21.

This ushered in a new era of holistic health, with a focus on prevention rather than cure.

Centuries ago, one of the most popular Sanskrit poets, Bhartrhari, highlighting the speciality of Yoga, said:--

"धैर्यं यस्य पिता क्षमा च जननी शान्तिश्चिरं गेहिनी,  सत्यं सूनुरयं दया च भगिनी भ्राता मनः संयमः।  शय्या भूमितलं दिशोSपि वसनं ज्ञानामृतं भोजनं, एते यस्य कुटिम्बिनः वद सखे कस्माद् भयं योगिनः।।"

Meaning: By practising Yoga on a regular basis, a person can imbibe some very good qualities such as courage that protects like a father, forgiveness like a mother, and mental peace that becomes a permanent friend...

Meaning: Through regular yoga practice, truth becomes our child, kindness our sister, self-control our brother, earth our bed, and knowledge satisfies our hunger.

Each Yogic activity is a key to improving flexibility, strength, balance and attaining harmony.
