This Full Moon (Paush Purnima), which traditionally marks the end of each month on the day of the full Moon, occurs on the last day of the Hindu month Paush.

In the Hindu calendar, Paush Purnima is an important day.  The Magha month starts on the day after Paush Purnima, which is celebrated as the month of austerity.

The North's extreme cold season makes the austerity period more challenging.  People take morning baths in the Ganga or the Yamuna throughout the entire month of Magha Mahina.

For both Shakambari Navratri and Magha, bathing in India's holy waters is an important activity.  Also, people give charity to the needy during Magha month.
