'India Ki Udaan' is launched by Google to celebrate 75 years of independence.

Google launched a Digital Collection "India Ki Udaan" in honour of India's 75th anniversary of independence, on 5 August 2022, Friday.  Google's "India Ki Udaan" will highlight India's achievements on 75 years of Independence.

Software giant Google launched a vibrant online project through its rich archives and featuring artistic illustrations that will introduce internet users to the rich culture and heritage of India.

THEME - The theme of the the project 'India ki Udaan' executed by Google Arts & Culture is, 'Unwavering and undying spirit of India over these past 75 years'.

At a glittering event organized under the aegis of 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav', the project was officially introduced at the Sunder Nursery in New Delhi in the presence of Union Culture and Tourism Minister G. Kishan Reddy and senior officials of the Culture Ministry and Google.

In this event, Google introduced its well-known programmes and projects, and also announced the famous Doodle4Google contest for 2022 with the theme "In the next 25 years, my India will...," for students of classes 1-10. 

Google stated, "The winner of this year's Doodle4Google will see their artwork on the Google homepage in India on November 14.

They will win a ₹5,00,000 college scholarship, a ₹2,00,000 technology package for their school/non-profit organisation, a recognition of achievement, Google hardware, and fun Google collectibles. Four group winners and 15 finalists will also win exciting prizes."

The event's centrepiece was a new online gallery called "India Ki Udaan," available on the Google Arts & Culture website. 

India's rich cultural diversity and iconic moments are featured in the collection. People can revisit those moments by visiting Google's official website.

This website is available in English and Hindi and features anyone to explore more than 120 illustrations and 21 stories created by 10 talented artists. 

It also features exhibitions from various institutions across India, including the Ministry of Tourism, Museum of Art & Photography, Heritage Directorate of the Indian Railways, the Indian Academy of Sciences and Dastkari Haat Samiti.

The "India ki Udaan" project, according to Simon Rein, senior programme manager at Google Arts and Culture, "marries the rich archival content with artistic talent as displayed by illustrators."

At the venue, a kite-shaped digital screen, pictures with an augmented reality experience, and other tech-driven activities were set up as physical representations of the new digital collection.

Google Arts & Culture, in its 10th year in India, has featured India's rich culture in many ways. It has brought India's cultural heritage to people all over the world by working with over 100 partners in India.

Mr. Reddy, in his speech, urged Google to create a special doodle on "Har Ghar Tiranga" that would encourage all to enthusiastically join the campaign.

He also stated that Google might help the Culture Ministry in digitally mapping the boundaries of its over 3,000 centrally protected monuments, which would help in better monitoring and encroachment control.

Mr. Reddy said, "It can also help in the digitization of rare archival material, hence we urge the Google team to be a partner the government's transformative journey and also promote India's tourist destinations."

The government issued a statement later saying the event was a continuation of the decade-long partnership between the Ministry of Culture and Google.
