The scientific name of this tree is ‘Nyctanthes arbortristis’. This tree is grown all over India. In India, it is mainly found in Central India and in the lower foothills of the Himalayas. This tree is mainly found in gardens. It is said that if this tree is around the house, then many types of Vastu defects remain away from the house.

These flowers bloom at night and fall in the morning, that is why they are also called ‘Night Jasmine’. Religious Significance of Parijat

The religious significance of Parijat is very high. It is said that wherever this tree is planted, it sanctifies that place. The mention of this tree is found in many religious texts and Puranas. It is believed that the flowers of Parijat are very dear to Vishnupriya Mahalakshmi. Offering these flowers in worship is considered even more auspicious. It is also said that Devi Sita used to adorn herself with these flowers during vanvaas. Parijat is called ‘Harsingar’ because its flowers are used to adorn Hari (Shri Vishnu). These flowers are very adorable and fragrant.

It is said that just by touching this tree, the fatigue of the body gets removed and whoever lives near this tree, he never gets old. Sitting under this tree, whatever you ask, you get it immediately. Once Satyabhama, a wife of Lord Shri Krishna, had demanded a Parijat tree from him, then after fighting Indra, Lord Shri Krishna won Parijat and brought it to earth.

♦ Parijat is known for many medicinal properties. The flowers, leaves and bark of Parijat are all used as medicine. In Ayurveda, Parijata is considered a stress reliever. Fragrant oils and perfumes are made from the flowers of Parijat.

♦ Many types of skin diseases can be treated with the flowers and leaves of Parijat. It removes blemishes and adds glow to the skin. The use of Parijat flowers purifies the blood and kills many types of bacteria.

♦ Parijat is most commonly used to cure the disease of sciatica (severe pain from waist to toe). The decoction of the juice of its leaves provides relief in the pain of sciatica, but parijat leaves should not be used in the spring season.

♦ Parijat flowers are considered very helpful in removing heart and eye problems. It is said that heart diseases can be avoided by consuming the juice of these flowers. Along with this, Parijat flowers are also used to increase appetite and remove digestive problems.

♦ Consuming the seeds of Parijat flowers is beneficial in piles. Applying a paste of flowers in swelling gives relief.

♦ The decoction of Parijat flowers gets rid of the problem of frequent urination. High blood pressure and sugar level are also controlled by the use of Parijat leaves.

♦ The abscesses and wounds are healed quickly by the seeds of Parijat flowers. Stomach worms are removed by the juice of parijat leaves.

♦ Parijat is also used for problems related to bones and joints. Taking the juice of Parijat leaves with honey provides relief from dry cough and cold, and also provides great relief in asthma. Drinking the juice of Parijat leaves provides relief in malaria and any kind of fever.
