Like Mosambi, orange is also a fruit of the same caste of citrus. Orange is beautiful to look at, sour-sweet and cool to eat. Consuming orange is beneficial for health. It is also used as a medicine. Many of its properties have been explained in detail in Ayurveda.

Orange Tree

Planting orange and lemon trees in or around your home is considered a sign of good luck and prosperity. Trees full of oranges are considered extremely lucky. The birth place of orange is considered to be India and China. From here orange went to other countries Europe, Africa. Orange is famous in our India since ancient times.

Warm air is favorable for orange trees. The climate around Nagpur is very favorable for this. Orange trees are small, well branched and have bright green leaves for 12 months. Its flowers are white, round and have 4 to 8 petals. The flowers are yellowish red when ripe. The fragrance of these flowers is very sweet.

The first season of orange is from October to February and the second is from March to May. The fruits of the first season are somewhat sour, while the fruits of the second season are sweeter and better. After planting the orange, it bears fruits on the fourth to fifth year. A tree usually bears 200 to 400 fruits. Its tree keeps on giving fruits for 20-25 years. There are many varieties of oranges, but there are mainly two varieties – sour and sweet.

Properties and benefits of orange

• Orange is a fruit available throughout the year. Its juice is sweet or sour-sweet and beneficial. It is a perfect drink for summers. Its juice removes craving, burning sensation and disinterest. Orange juice purifies blood, opens appetite and increases digestion power. Syrup, pickle and marmalade are also made from orange juice.

• Orange is digestible, refreshing, cools by removing heat and purifies and enhances blood. During fasting, orange juice gives strength to the body, purifies and relaxes each digestive organ. Consuming orange after some time of food does not cause any kind of disorder. Orange also helps in warding off influenza.

Orange contains about 87% water, so its juice is very light to digest. Giving orange juice to a tired or sick person is very beneficial, but-

Note – Sour-orange causes cold, cough and bile. It is not good to eat sour orange in excess. Only sweet orange is beneficial for sick people. They should not be given sour orange.

• The coolness present in orange removes body heat and quenches frequent thirst. Orange juice has the best quality to quench thirst. It removes yellowness and burning sensation of urine, removes the heat of the eyes and gives coolness and peace.

• Orange is useful to remove problems like indigestion and stomach gas. It cleanses the stomach and intestinal tract and increases digestive power, which gives relief to the patient (ripe tomatoes can also be used instead of oranges in these problems).

♦ Orange contains vitamin A and B in moderate amounts, vitamin C in good amounts and vitamin D in small amounts. It is rich in iron and calcium, so its consumption increases the strength of the body and blood, removes discoloration of the blood, increases the strength of teeth and bones. There are also minerals like phosphorus in orange. Mineral alkali is in good quantity in orange, it reduces the acidity of the body.

♦ According to Ayurveda, orange is sweet, vigorous, removes body heat, digests food, removes distaste, carminative, nutritious, destroys intestinal worms and colic. Consuming orange juice calms bile and removes impurity in the blood.

• Eating orange removes stomach gas and increases the power of the intestines. Consumption of orange reduces high blood pressure. Consuming orange cures diseases like boils and pimples, hair also gets strong. Constipation is removed by eating orange in summer.

Orange Peel

The peel of orange fruit is also very beneficial. Many types of medicines and cosmetics are made from it. Many types of medicines or pastes or face packs are made for the skin by drying orange peels properly and grinding them into powder, which are effective in removing many skin problems.

Consumption of orange brings new life to dry, rough and blackened skin, increases its softness. Orange Peel has the property of lightening the complexion and removing blemishes. Orange peels add glow to the skin.
