Benefits of Coconut Water, Oil and Milk- Coconut or Nariyal is the most useful and beneficial fruit among all the fruits. Coconut has always been used in India. It is used in every festival, worship or auspicious work. No major worship or auspicious work can be done without coconut, that is why it is also called ‘Shriphal’ or Mahalakshmi’s fruit or ‘Shubhphal’. Coconut is a good health fruit.

Coconut quenches hunger as well as thirst. To have a coconut tree means to have food, drink, fuel, utensils, clothes and a house for the family. Coconut kernel, water, oil, milk, root, bark, copra, etc. all have medicinal uses. It is very beneficial for health and perhaps that is why God has made it an essential part of every religious work so that it reaches every house in some form or the other and people keep getting its benefits.

Coconut Tree

Coconut trees look almost like palm trees, but date palm trees stand upright, while coconut trees stand either way (straight or crooked). Normal temperature and soft friable land along the seashore are more favourable for coconut trees. Its trees do not grow in closed, black or clay soils without drainage. Pesticides and expensive fertilizers are also not needed in coconut cultivation.

Good production and good earnings- Coconut is sown in the ground starts giving fruit in about 4-5 years and gives very good production for 25-30 years. Good coconut trees bear about 150 to 200 fruits at a time. Coconut trees keep bearing fruit for about 80 years. Coconut tree grown in saline land starts giving fruit in about 6-7 years and their production always remains the same. There are many species of coconut, which bear fruit throughout the year. India leads the world in coconut production.

Properties of Coconut- According to many research done on coconut, coconut is full of nutrients. Energy, carbohydrate, fat, protein, vitamin-C, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, and sodium are abundant in coconut. There are 44 calories, 10 grams of carbohydrates and 0.5 grams of protein in 250 ml of coconut water. One coconut can meet the daily requirement of 27 percent vitamin C, 23 percent manganese, 9 percent potassium, 4 percent magnesium, 1 percent calcium.

Benefits of Coconut- Along with making milk, oil etc. from coconut, many delicious dishes, sweets, medicines and cosmetics are made from it. Various essential, medicinal and decoration items are made from its copra. The best thing about coconut is that it cannot be adulterated like other fruits and vegetables. Nature itself has protected it so well that no chemical or injection etc. can be used in it.

♦ The effect of coconut is cool, so its use in summer is very beneficial. According to Ayurveda, coconut purifies the blood and bladder, removes body heat, and increases strength and immunity. It produces lubrication in the intestines and helps in cleansing the stomach.

♦ Digestion power is good by eating fresh coconut kernels. It is very beneficial in problems like piles, diabetes, gastric and peptic ulcer. Teeth and gums also remain healthy by chewing coconut kernels well. Eating sugar candy mixed with coconut kernels ends general eye problems.

♦ Coconut water is considered similar to ‘Amrit‘. Drinking coconut water not only quenches the thirst of the body but also gives strength. It is better to use coconut water instead of glucose. Coconut water is considered very good for the heart in summer.

♦ Coconut water is also light to digest, cleans the dirt of the stomach, eliminates bile, purifies urine, removes body heat and makes the mind healthy. Coconut removes the weakness of the brain. Drinking coconut water increases strength and removes obesity.

♦ According to a research published in the American research journal Clinical Nutrition, people who are complaining of high blood pressure, they should drink two coconut water daily for about a week in summer. Potassium is found in abundance in it, which increases the rate of removal of sodium from the body. Due to this, there is no extra pressure on the arteries during blood circulation and blood pressure remains under control. Coconut also protects against heart diseases by reducing cholesterol levels.

Coconut Milk-

Benefits of Coconut Milk- Nowadays, in many research, coconut milk is being said to be more beneficial than cow’s milk, because cow or buffalo milk is heavy to digest, as well as some people are allergic to animal milk. In such a situation, it is considered very good to use coconut milk, because it is light to digest, as well as it does not cause any kind of allergy. Secondly, nowadays a lot of adulteration is being done in the milk of cow and buffalo, due to which milk is becoming the cause of many big diseases instead of benefits.

Coconut milk is rich in many nutrients. It removes malnutrition but does not increase weight. Coconut milk gives a lot of power to the body and that is why it is used to overcome malnutrition. It is also helpful in reducing extra fat. Along with this, drinking coconut milk also removes skin related problems and increases immunity. It is also used to cure mouth ulcers.

Method of making Coconut Milk- Crack a good coconut and take out its kernel. Add two or three cups of water to one cup of kernels and grind them well with a mixer. Then filter it well in a vessel. Coconut milk is ready. You can drink it at the same time or keep it in the fridge for a day.

When kept in the fridge, its cream collects on the top side. So if you want, you can use this cream and the remaining water separately, or you can mix the two again (milk) and drink it.

Caution- Coconut milk should be drunk only in summer. Avoid heating coconut milk because it can raise cholesterol levels. You can make things like a banana shake with coconut milk, but you cannot make tea or coffee from it.

Make coconut milk at home and drink it in a day. Drinking packed or ready-made coconut milk is not good for health as it contains preservatives or chemicals. Only homemade Coconut Milk is beneficial for us. Coconut milk is not very expensive. If you make it at home, then its price is equal to the cost of cow-buffalo milk, or it can be even less.


Coconut Oil-

Coconut oil is used for cooking and many other purposes. Coconut oil is very good for the hair, as well as it is like a miracle medicine for the skin. It is helpful in removing almost all kinds of problems or diseases related to the skin.

How to make Coconut Oil at home- Keep coconut milk in the fridge overnight. By morning the cream will collect on top of it. Put the same cream in a steel vessel and cook it like Rabri, till oil starts appearing. Then when the oil starts to separate in the pot while cooking continuously, then take it off the fire and filter it. Pure coconut oil is ready. (see picture above)

Benefits of Coconut Oil- By cooking food in pure coconut oil, the power of the body increases and the weakness of the mind is removed. It is also light to digest. Coconut oil has antioxidant properties.

Coconut oil face massage- Massaging with coconut oil makes the skin of the hands and feet soft, wrinkles are reduced and the glow increases. Coconut oil is also beneficial in eczema.

♦ If there is any side effect on the skin of any kind of cosmetics or any home remedy, such as rash or itching or allergy… then washing it with water and applying coconut oil immediately on it gives relief.

(For example, some people get allergic or red rash or itching problem by applying curd-gram flour paste (on the face). In such a situation, washing the face and applying coconut oil immediately to it gives immediate relief).

♦ Applying lemon juice and coconut oil in equal quantity provides relief in any kind of ringworm-itch and itching. It also cleans the skin well.

♦ Putting coconut oil in the navel and massaging the stomach around it gives relief in stomachache. Also, there is relief in common eye problems.

♦ Gently rubbing coconut oil into the teeth and then rinsing makes the teeth strong and shiny.

Benefits of Coconut Oil for Hair- Mix lemon juice in coconut oil and heat it and when it is lukewarm, massage the hair with light hands. Shampoo the hair after an hour or two. This is the most effective way to keep hair healthy. Due to this, the hair becomes long, thick, dark and strong, as well as many problems of the head are also removed.


How to make Coconut Chutney

Ingredients: One cup kernels of coconut, one cup green coriander (chopped), one cup curd, 4 green chillies, and salt as per taste.
Ingredients for tempering: One tablespoon mustard oil, 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds, 14-15 curry leaves.

Method of making coconut chutney: Grind coconut kernel, green coriander, green chilli, curd, salt and half a cup of water into a fine paste (you can add water according to how thick or thin you want the chutney). After this, put mustard oil in a small pan and heat it. Put mustard seeds in this oil. After the mustard seeds crackle, add curry leaves and switch off the gas. Add this tempering to the ground chutney. Coconut chutney is ready.

Precautions in the use of coconut

Coconut has a cooling effect, so people who often have colds or colds, should not use coconut kernels or coconut water or coconut milk in winter, or use it in limited amounts by sitting in the sun. In summer, its consumption is very beneficial. Along with this, coconut kernel is heavy to digest.
