Decision Theory / Decision Making in Operations Research:

Decision Theory or Decision Making in Operations Research provides a rational approach to dealing with problems confronted with the partial, imperfect or uncertain future conditions. You cannot solve a problem without making a decision. 

The operation research (OR) starts when mathematical and quantitative techniques are used to substantiate the decision being taken. The main activity of a manager is decision making.

In our daily life, we make decisions even without noticing them. The decisions are taken simply by common sense, judgment and expertise without using any mathematical or any other model in simple situations. But the decision we are concerned here with are complex and heavily responsible.

Examples are public transportation network planning in a city having its own layout of factories, residential blocks or finding the appropriate product mix when there exists a large number of products with different profit contributions and production requirements etc.

संचालन अनुसंधान में निर्णय सिद्धांत / निर्णय लेना:

निर्णय सिद्धांत उन समस्याओं से निपटने के लिए एक तार्किक दृष्टिकोण प्रदान करता है जिनमें आंशिक, अपूर्ण या अनिश्चित भविष्य की स्थिति होती है।जब तक आप कोई निर्णय नहीं लेते तब तक आप किसी समस्या का समाधान नहीं कर सकते।

OR प्रक्रिया तब शुरू होती है जब लिए गए निर्णय को प्रमाणित करने के लिए गणितीय और संख्यात्मक तकनीकों का उपयोग किया जाता है। एक प्रबंधक की प्राथमिक जिम्मेदारी निर्णय लेना है।

अपने दैनिक जीवन में, हम उन पर ध्यान दिए बिना भी निर्णय लेते हैं। सरल परिस्थितियों में, निर्णय, किसी गणितीय या अन्य मॉडल के बजाय सामान्य ज्ञान, निर्णय, विशेषज्ञता और कौशल का उपयोग करके किए जाते हैं। हालाँकि, हम यहाँ जिस निर्णय की चर्चा कर रहे हैं वह जटिल है और उस पर बहुत बड़ी जिम्मेदारी है।

उदाहरण के लिए, एक शहर में कारखानों और आवासीय ब्लॉकों के अपने लेआउट के साथ एक सार्वजनिक परिवहन नेटवर्क का निर्माण की योजना बनाना, या सर्वोत्तम उत्पाद मिश्रण का निर्धारण करना जब विभिन्न लाभ योगदान और उत्पादन आवश्यकताओं के साथ बड़ी संख्या में उत्पाद हों, आदि।
