What is the role of Inventory Decisions in Management?

We know that inventory management is a systematic approach to sourcing, storing and selling inventory – both raw materials (components) and finished goods (products).

In business terms, inventory management means having the right stock, at the right levels, at the right place, at the right time, and at the right cost as well as the price.

For any consignment-based business, the value of inventory cannot be overstated, which is why inventory management benefits your operational efficiency and longevity.

The managers must take two basic decisions in order to accomplish the functions of inventory. The decisions made for every item in the inventory are:

(i) How much amount of an item should be ordered when the inventory of that item is to be replenished?

(ii) When to replenish the inventory of that item?

So the basic decisions are simple about how much to order and when to order. Also, there are additional decisions such as where to store the inventory and what items to order.

हम जानते हैं कि, इन्वेंट्री प्रबंधन, कच्चे माल (घटकों) और तैयार माल (उत्पादों), दोनों इन्वेंट्री को सोर्सिंग, स्टोर करने और बेचने के लिए एक व्यवस्थित दृष्टिकोण है। व्यापार के संदर्भ में, इन्वेंट्री प्रबंधन का अर्थ है सही स्टॉक, सही स्तर पर, सही जगह पर, सही समय पर, और सही लागत के साथ-साथ सही कीमत पर।

अतः बुनियादी मुद्दे सरल हैं कि कितना ऑर्डर करना है और कब ऑर्डर करना है।

इसके अलावा और भी मुद्दे है जैसे कि इन्वेंट्री को कहां स्टोर करना है और किन वस्तुओं को ऑर्डर करना है।
