Difference between event and activity in Network Diagram:

In a network diagram, each event is represented by a node. In a network, a circle is commonly used to represent an event and the event number is written within the circle. It is assumed when drawing networks that,

(a) The direction of movement is from left to right.
(b) The number for the head event is greater than the number for the tail event.

Here, A is known as the activity, as shown follows:

Difference between Event and Activity in network diagram are as follows:

  • Any individual operation, which utilizes resources and has a beginning and an end, is called an activity. The starting and ending points of an activity are referred to as events in network diagram.
  • An event is that particular moment of time when a specific part of a project is to be completed, whereas an activity is the actual performance of a task.
  • Activity is represented by an arrow to depict an activity with its head indicating the direction of progress in the project, whereas a circle is commonly used to represent event.
  • Words like complete, start, issue, approves, taste, and so on are frequently used to describe events, while words such as design, process, test, develop, prepare, and so on represent activity.
  • The event does not take up any time or resources. An activity necessitates the expenditure of time and resources in order to be completed because it is the actual performance of the task.
  • Activities can be included within events. As an example, a cultural festival is an event that includes a variety of activities. As an example, the Olympics is an event, and playing the guitar is an activity.
  • An activity ( i-j ) always denotes a job that begins at event ( i ) and ends at event ( j ), as shown follows:
