Definition of Inventory:

Inventory is the function of directing the movement of goods through the entire manufacturing cycle from the requisitioning of raw materials to the inventory of finished goods orderly mannered to meet the objectives of maximum customer service with minimum investment and efficient (low-cost) plant operation.

In other words, an inventory is the quantity or value of a manufacturer’s or retailer’s existing (current) stock. This can include an accounting of items, component parts, raw materials and parts that will be used later in the manufacturing process, production, or sales, etc. For the smooth running of a business, managing inventory is critical. So, the science of inventory management is essential to ensure that your supply network will operate without interruption.

What Is Inventory?

In a broad sense, inventory may be defined as the stock of goods, commodities or other economic resources that are stored or reserved in order to ensure the smooth and efficient running of business affairs.

The inventory or stock of goods may be kept in any of the following forms:

(i) Raw material inventory, i.e., raw materials which are kept in stock for use in the production of goods.

(ii) Work-in-process inventory, i.e., semi-finished goods or goods in process, which are stored during the production process.

(iii) Finished goods inventory, i.e., finished goods awaiting shipment from the factory.

(iv) Inventory also includes furniture, machinery, fixtures, etc.

What Is Inventory in Hindi?

वास्तव में, माल, वस्तुओं या अन्य आर्थिक संसाधनों के स्टॉक को, जो व्यावसायिक मामलों के सुचारू और कुशल संचालन को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए संग्रहित या आरक्षित हैं, इन्वेंट्री (inventory) कहते हैं ।

माल की सूची या स्टॉक को निम्नलिखित में से किसी भी रूप में रखा जा सकता है:

(i) कच्चे माल की सूची, यानी कच्चा माल जो माल के उत्पादन में उपयोग के लिए स्टॉक में रखा जाता है।

(ii) वर्क-इन-प्रोसेस इन्वेंट्री, यानी अर्द्ध तैयार माल या प्रक्रिया में माल, जो उत्पादन प्रक्रिया के दौरान संग्रहित किया जाता है।

(iii) तैयार माल की सूची, यानी, कारखाने से शिपमेंट की प्रतीक्षा में तैयार माल।

(iv) फर्नीचर, मशीनरी, जुड़नार, आदि भी सूची में शामिल है।
